1. it doesn't damage the car 2. it has a utilitarian function 3. it keeps the person from buying an SUV to haul shit, thus keeping another SUV off the road. I still don't understand the point of your original post. The Z was designed to have the ability to haul ass, but also to function as a normal car. If Nissan had wanted it to be strictly a racecar, it would have weighed about 500lbs. less and had fewer luxuries. Do you drive your Z only when you want to drive fast, or do you also drive it to enjoy it? I see nothing wrong with strapping a bike rack on there. If you're into biking, why not have an awesome ride in a Z before doing something else you like to do. I think everyone is trying a little to hard to be a purist.
